The Difference Between Hard and Soft Enamel Pins

The most popular types of pins are hard and soft enamel. When selecting the process for their enamel pins, many people have the same question: What’s the difference? The biggest difference between the two is the texture and durability. Both methods use the same metal molds, and both will have bright and vibrant colors. The difference comes in with how the molds are filled and the finish. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

Soft Enamel

Soft enamel is the most popular type of pin. Although it is less durable than hard enamel, it has a look that many people enjoy. The colored paint is recessed into the metal mold, giving the pins a textured feel. The dimensional look of soft enamel is what makes so many people drawn to them.

Hard Enamel

Hard enamel is preferred by those who want a more durable pin. Hard enamel pins are filled with color to be an even level with the metal mold, then polished to have a smooth and even finish. Hard enamel pins are high quality and scratch-resistant but lack the charming texture of soft enamel pins. Although, the smooth finish is also very appealing.
